BML
BioMiningLabs is a self-employed company providing consulting services in computational biology. The company has been founded in January 2009 by Jean-Baptiste Veyrieras.
About me
I am presently working at part-time (80%) for the French company bioMérieux as a technical leader in computational biology. For the remaining part of my time (20%), I am working as an independent expert in computational biology. I have a 10 years experience in knowledge engineering and statistical learning applied to biology, in particular in genomics and genetics (see my resume). During these past years, I have contributed to several research projects for which I have designed and developed free data-analysis software projects like MetaQTL or eQTNMiner. I am still leading most of these projects.
Services
I offer the following services:
- model development for biological data,
- data-analysis,
- custom statistical software development,
- custom data-analysis pipeline development,
- technical reviews,
- training on my softwares,
- training on developing high-performance C programs in computational biology.
For programing, I like to write high-performance programs in C using either publicly available libraries like the Gnu Scientific Library (GSL) or my own C library called Genetic Data Analysis Library (GDL). And then to combine low-level modular subroutines in more sophisticated softwares using “glue” languages like Perl or R.
For data-analysis I am lining up with - and strongly encourage - the recommendations of the reproducible research group and I extensively use framework like R/Sweave.
Collaborations
For me working for you as a consultant is a real collaboration: synergy and deep interaction are always the keys of a successful project.
Presently, I am collaborating approximately 1 week every month with the two following academic teams:
Pritchard Lab (HHMI / University of Chicago, USA)
In 2006 I started my first postdoc in the lab of Pr. Jonathan Pritchard. Since we have kept on collaborating on the analysis of gene regulation in Human, even when I came back to France in 2007. Currently, as a consultant I am involved in projects focusing on high-throughput sequencing data for the analysis of gene expression.
GISV (ENS Lyon, France)
When I came back from the US, I started a new postdoc with Dr. Gaël Yvert on genome-wide quantitative epigenetics in yeast using ChIP-Chip data. We are still collaborating on this topic and a free software called nucleoMiner should be released soon.
